Meet Carmen and Glenn Wakeling
Carmen & Glenn Wakeling are the owners of Eatmore Sprouts & Greens. They have two wonderful teenaged children and live only a 3 minute bike ride from work!
Carmen was born in Alberta and came to the Coast with her family as a young girl in the early 1970′s. Carmen’s first job in high school was at a friend’s sprout farm. It was love at first sight. Carmen has been dedicated to local, organic food production ever since! Carmen has a dream of seeing Vancouver Island become self sufficient and sustainable in her lifetime.
Glenn was born & raised in New Zealand. His family farmed sheep and cattle on steep hill country in the central North Island. Glenn met Carmen while on a working holiday and, after building homes in Canada for a time, they purchased Eatmore Sprouts. Glenn’s creativity and his background in construction and farming, make him our perfect Maintenance Manager and Big-Picture-Long-Term-Development Guy. When not designing ingenious new ways to grow sprouts, you will find Glenn either on his bicycle in the trails or on his yoga mat.
Meet our Management Team
Lucie Desjarlais has been with us for a really long time! Lucie is the first home sprouter we ever hired. She literally wrote the book on sprouts! Lucie is our Accounting Manager. She and her faithful side kick Cheryle will show you the money… well, they will answer questions about the financial side of the business. We know we are in good hands with Lucie and Cheryle in our Accounting Office. Thanks for keeping us on track!
Sara Doyle is our Human Resources and Worker Safety Manager. Sara is an expert in bringing out the best in people. She believes in people and in building supportive teams. We appreciate Sara for her good heart, straightforward nature and ability to warm a room with her smile… and she brings us doughnuts!
Eli Hutchens is our Yard Manager. This is a big job – 3.75 acres big! Eli is often found out cutting grass, turning compost and shoveling things. Eli brings his strength and stamina to his work with us here at Eatmore. We appreciate Eli for his dedication to his family and his love of farming.
Cynthia VanOrder is a key and valued member of our team, keeping the managers and the sprouts on track! Cynthia is the voice of Eatmore and the first person you will meet when you call us. Whether you are placing an order or making an inquiry, Cynthia will point you in the right direct. She displays dedication to perfection in her work and her personal growth… with patience and compassion for the changing nature of things of course!
Amy Crook is our most recent addition to the team helping us in the administrative and promotional realms of Eatmore. She is passionate about food security and local food systems, spending much of her free time in her garden. When she’s not working or gardening, you can find her in the woods with her beloved dog.
